Help Page
This page contains assistance on using the Standards for Highways website. This includes how to download and read documents from the site and, a guide to the icons used on the site.
Viewing files
Most of the documents available on this website are in the PDF format and can be accessed by navigating through the different sections of the site.
Most of the section pages on the site are 'normal webpages' (HTML) and normally require no special software, whereas the 'parts' of the MCHW, DMRB or an IAN are available as PDF files and require special viewing software.
How do I know a link is to a PDF file?
In browsers with pictures enabled you will see a small icon in a link like in the following PDF icon example. This means that the link is to a PDF document and that by following the link it will open a new window.
In browsers with pictures disabled or if you are using a screen-reader you will be presented with text instead of an icon. The text will warn you that a link is to a PDF and that a new window will be opened if you follow it, this is shown in the PDF icon example.
How to view PDF documents - Adobe Acrobat PDF reader
PDF files can be read using Adobe Reader software, which is available for many different computer systems including Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Palm. Visit the Adobe website to obtain the Adobe Reader software.

Use of cookies
www.standardsforhighways.co.uk uses 'session' cookies to remember your preference for either a 'high contrast' or 'normal' page view. The cookie collects no other information from you.
Session cookies are only valid for your current web-browser session, which means when you close your browser the cookie is destroyed.
If you have cookies disabled
You do not need cookies enabled to use this website.
If cookies are disabled in your browser then the website cannot retain your viewing preferences. If you select the high contrast view and then navigate to a different page on the site, the page colours will revert to default instead of applying the high contrast colours to the page.
